Rice Harrington passed away unexpectedly in July 2003. Four of Rice’s close friends formed Cabin 10, Inc. in August of 2004 to host the Rice Festival, to “keep a good man’s vibe alive”, and to provide continued funding for The Rice Harrington Art Scholarship, presented each year to graduating art students from SMHS.

With the success of The Rice Festival, Cabin 10, Inc. decided to create an additional scholarship rewarding graduates of the performing arts seeking higher education. Thus, RiceGrass has been created to fund the Bill Gibbs Scholarship for the Advancement of Folk Music.

Cabin 10, Inc.’s mission statement is quite simple:
To embrace the spirit and legacy of Rice Harrington as a community by gathering in support of education in the arts.

As shown in Dixie’s sketch to the left, Cabin 10 was a real cabin, that was located at YMCA Camp Flaming Arrow in Hunt, Texas. Although, it’s no longer standing, it remains an icon for the strong friendships that were made back when many of us first met the counselor of Cabin 10 - Rice Harrington. Cabin 10, Inc. is a Texas 501(c)(3) cultural non-profit corporation.
